LED VS Halogen: Should You Buy LED Headlight Conversion Kit Or Not?
Lights are one of the most ubiquitous items that we have on this planet. Every home in the world has them or at least a version of it. Every street in the world has some sort of light. It is said that electric bulbs are one of the first inventions that were connected to electricity. After which, these little things became constants in every home and place all around the world. Groups of these tend to brighten up the sky more than the stars, and astronauts see them. As we have used these artificial lights at night, they become a need for every human so that they can live comfortably at night. Learn more about its invention here.
All cars need proper illumination for them to be able to function on the road, especially at night. There are a lot of states here in the US that actually prohibits driving without head or fog lights. Sentences and penalties may vary, but it doesn’t change the fact that this is an illegal activity. Also, driving with proper illumination at night is so much easier since you can see a lot of things. It can be quite a challenge to drive without them, especially in places where it is dim and dark. This is why you need to have a good set of headlights for your car.
Generally, there are only two options that are very popular these days: LED (light emitting diode) and halogen. For these two, halogen is still the most common since most car manufacturers are using halogen bulbs. On the other hand, LED has existed for a very long time now. However, it was only in the recent decade that this was introduced to the car manufacturing plants. You can even use a LED headlight conversion kit for those who still have halogen lights. Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages.
Explaining LED
These have been the rage in the car industry in recent years. They were first introduced to homes and buildings because they are so much brighter than incandescent illuminations. As time passed by, they were applied to electronics and other devices because they can be manufactured to be quite small. Once they were applied to cars, the difference is really observable. They are so much brighter because of all the filaments inside. They are also more efficient with energy use and they can last for a long time. Some manufacturers even claim that they can last for years.
On the other hand, LED can be quite dangerous for other commuters and other drivers. Some lights can be too bright and this can blind them. This can cause a lot of accidents and people blame the fixtures because they cannot see anymore. The glare can even blind pedestrians momentarily, and we all know that every second counts on the road. Make sure that they are installed properly so that they would not cause such problems. Also, look for LED is not too bright as well, maybe on the shade of blue. This decreases the glare and it even looks so much better. Explaining Halogen
These lights are made from tungsten and halogen gas. Halogen has been used for decades because it is affordable and easily manufactured by a lot of companies. This usually produces a more orange light, and this is very common in many cars, especially those manufactured after the year 2000. One of the main advantages of this type is its brightness. It may not be as bright as LED (far from it actually) but it doesn’t blind other drivers on the road. This is why they are still used by a lot of people. Also, it is quite expensive to convert and not all can afford that.
On the other hand, halogen does not last as long as LED. Even though they are more affordable, but it is not as energy efficient. It takes up more energy than LED but is less bright. This can be rather detrimental especially in places where high brightness is really needed. You can always have it converted if you want to, but if you are happy with halogen lights then it is your own choice.
